Our History

Manta5 was founded in early 2011 by Guy Howard-Willis and Roland Alonzo. Both passionate and committed cyclists. The distinct lack of options for a would-be water cyclist Guy had long played on his mind – until one day, he swapped wondering for action, met bike designer Roland. Together with a spirit of wonder, the Manta5 journey began.

Funded by the sale of Guy's recently sold company Torpedo7, the pair worked in secrecy from everyone apart from their wives for two years.  Just as a high-performance bicycle, Guy and Roland envisioned a concept that was lightweight, fast, agile, easy to transport, assemble and upgrade. On top of this, the rider would need to launch from a pontoon or from deep water, without settling for any existing bulky buoyancy or hulls.

Seven years later using the same hydrofoil technology that lifts America's Cup yachts out of the water the incumbent Manta5 Hydrofoil XE-1 Bike is making waves around the world. Winning numerous design awards and reaching viral status on social media (350 million and counting).  They have built Manta5 on the solid foundations where innovation, passion for cycling and watersports matches a relentless commitment to provide customers with first class service, and unprecedented riding experiences.

What We're About

The heart of Manta5 beats for innovation. It’s what we do best. Redefining what’s possible and making that accessible and intuitive for great user experiences. The team are constantly tinkering and testing new modular add-ons and components that will plug and play into the XE-1 frame.

Guy’s vision to one day see hydrofoil cycling in the Olympics is no easy feat, but we’re going for it. Seeing people push the limits of what’s possible on water is what we’re all about. In these formative years Manta5, together with its riders, will set the foundation for a new social and competitive sporting discipline to flourish.
